Environmental Policy

We started small and keep adding to it - our approach is simply to reduce, reuse, recycle and rethink, and we're glad when guests do the same. The Wye Valley is made for walking, cycling and getting about without a car, and we'd encourage you to explore it that way where you can.

Energy

The cottages are well insulated to reduce fuel use, lit predominantly with LED bulbs, and heating runs only while a cottage is occupied.

Waste & recycling

Green wheeled bins in the outhouse take glass, paper and card, plastics and tin. We provide reusable shopping bags and recycled toilet paper, run a compost heap in the parkland, and harvest rainwater from the roofs for the potted plants.

Cleaning

We use environmentally friendly products wherever we can, from brands such as Ecover and Ecoleaf, alongside vinegar as a cleaning solution and steam equipment for carpets and upholstery.

Wildlife

The parkland holds mature specimen trees, Buddleia for the butterflies, water lilies for the dragonflies, bird feeders, nesting boxes and bat habitats - and even a resident population of Greater Spotted Newts.

Local & fair trade

We stock Fair Trade products, use locally produced fruit juice and home-grown vegetables where we can, and our freezer menu comes from Moor Meals, a local producer using regional ingredients.

What's next

We're working towards wider LED adoption, better roof insulation, recycled paper stationery and a proper solution for dog waste disposal.
